Travellers' Wildlife Guides
Series Editor, Les Beletsky
The Travellers' Wildlife Guides is a series of travel-wildlife books aimed at environmentally conscious travellers (ecotourists) for whom some of the best parts of any trip are glimpses of animals in natural settings. The purpose of these books is to enhance enjoyment of a trip and enrich wildlife sightings by providing identifying information on several hundred of the most frequently encountered animals of a covered country or region, along with up-to-date information on their ecology, behavior, and conservation. For instance, for one of the recently published titles in the series, Peru, top wildlife artists produced splendid color illustrations of about 320 bird species, 70 mammals, 85 amphibians and reptiles, and 30 insects - the book truly includes most of the land animals that visitors to Peru are likely to encounter. Some of the books also include illustrations of sea creatures commonly sighted by divers and snorkelers (for instance, the book on Hawaii shows illustrations of about 200 fish and marine invertebrates).
"Beletsky's...guides are an inspired new concept in the field-guide genre." - Fiona Reid in the magazine Birding.
"As a natural history primer, this book sets the standard." - Michael Blair in the bird journal Ibis.
"One thing travelers to foreign countries discover is that it can be difficult, if not impossible, to find adequate field guides or information on the ecology of a destination. This sad situation has changed for the better with the launch of Les Beletsky's...series." - the magazine California Wild.
